Nation brought to tears by shocked face of 13-year-old cancer patient honored by President Trump
During his address to the joint session of Congress, President Donald Trump honored 13-year-old Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel, a cancer survivor from Texas who has long dreamed of becoming a police officer.
Diagnosed with a rare form of brain and spinal cancer in 2018, DJ was given just five months to live, yet defied the odds, surviving over six years.
Alongside his father, Theodis Daniel, DJ has been on a quest to be sworn in by as many law enforcement agencies as possible, achieving this over 900 times.
In a heartfelt moment, Trump directed Secret Service Director Sean Curran to induct DJ as an honorary U.S. Secret Service agent, presenting him with an official badge. As DJ’s father lifted him up, the House chamber erupted in cheers, with attendees chanting his name, celebrating his resilience and the fulfillment of his dream.
This touching gesture was a highlight of the speech, though Democrats notably refrained from standing or applauding, reflecting the partisan divide.
