Steve Moore advises Trump to hold off on tariffs until his tax cuts pass; lift spirits on the economy
Appearing on Fox News, Trump economic advisor Steve Moore expressed pessimism on the issue of Trump’s tariffs against Canada, Mexico and China right now, citing inflation and the overall economic “spirits” of the American consumers.
“I mean, after all, Trump’s only been in office for, you know, less than 40 days. So this is, I agree with Larry Kudlow that this is the — this is a bit of the Biden hangover. Remember, they flushed the zone with massive amounts of government spending in the last couple of months and that’s caused some of these prices to go up. But I also agree a little bit, you know, with you that I think the tariffs, Robert is right. I think these tariffs are not a good thing for the economy right now. I think that there’s a lot of uncertainty among a lot of investors. I think businesses are confused by it, and the markets clearly aren’t very happy about it. What I’d like Trump to do is don’t talk about tariffs right now, because tariffs are taxes. Talk about getting your tax cut done and getting that victory. I think that would really improve the American spirits on the economy.”
