The President’s order for election reform is precisely what is needed to avoid another 2020

President Trump has signed many monumental Executive Orders in his first 2 months on the job, but perhaps none of them is more important than the order to reform our elections.  The order is called

“Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections,” and is aimed at overhauling U.S. election processes. The order introduces several key changes: it mandates documentary proof of U.S. citizenship, such as a passport or birth certificate, for voter registration in federal elections by amending the national voter registration form managed by the Election Assistance Commission (EAC). It also requires all ballots to be received by Election Day, effectively banning states from counting mail-in ballots that arrive after that date, even if postmarked earlier. Additionally, it ties federal election funding to state compliance with these new rules, threatening to withhold funds from non-compliant states. The order directs federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), to review voter rolls for non-citizens and enforce election laws, while prioritizing prosecution of election-related crimes like non-citizen voting. It also seeks to limit electronic voting systems, favoring paper ballots, and rescinds a prior Biden-era order promoting voter access.
